Dreich Days

It’s been a gye trek tae ascend ‘is peak;
the clim has been mair than we expectit.
But fan frail Winter’s ice begins tae creak
the first signs o’ the Spring are detectit.
The frost’s grip retreats fae the icy parks
but the wither the Winter will contest ‒
first seemin’ awa’, but leavin’ weak marks:
the licht Spring mornin’ breeze cauld, snell an’ fresh.
The heather will bloom an’ pass on its pink
blastit an’ blawn in blustery shooers.
Though drookit flooer heeds despair an’ sink
Winter’s nae match fur Spring’s ally’s pooer ‒

Summer seen comes an’ days stretch wi’ sunbeams;
fan it arrives we ken dreich days are deen.
